If you own a first generation Apple Watch, there is some new warranty news you might want to know about.

According to an internal service policy obtained by MacRumors, Apple has extended the warranty for its the first generation Apple Watch up to three years to cover detached back covers. The issue seems to stem from the adhesive, which wears off sooner than expected and results in the separated back cover.
Here is Apple’s statement on the extended warranty:
Apple has determined that under certain conditions on some Apple Watch (1st generation) devices the back cover may separate from the watch case. Apple will service eligible devices free of charge. Apple will authorize coverage for three (3) years from the date of purchase.
The new warranty, which officially began some time last year, covers the first generation Apple Watch from the time it was purchased. That means that early adopters who picked up an Apple Watch when it first launched in April 2015 will be covered until April 2018.
If you are experiencing this issue with your first generation Apple Watch, you call an Apple Store and set up a Genius Bar appointment to fix the detached back cover free of charge at any point during the three year window.
